The Awkward Store Takes Manufacturing In-House
Business is tough for creators in this age. Competing with video reels, and being charged outrageous fees by Facebook and Instagram to reach our own audiences has made it nearly impossible to sustain a business that once thrived on the fans’ love of the comic that inspired the products.
As a new president takes term in the US, proposed tariffs will make it unrealistic to stock plushies the way we used to. Between unaffordable taxes and high minimum quantities, we were at a loss. But thanks to Nick’s (the artist/author behind the Awkward Yeti) new obsession with 3D printing, and insatiable need to create, we have a new solution!
Introducing our in-house manufacturing via 3D printing! We invested in 10 high-quality 3D printers and have spent months learning, preparing, prototyping, and experimenting to bring a whole new business model to The Awkward Store!
With the help of a talented 3D modeler and a lot of hard work by Nick and our small staff, we can now create just about anything we imagine out of eco-friendly plastic, at affordable quantities.
Our hope is to use this to create limited edition collectible items not only for The Awkward Store, but also for creators who might otherwise not be able to create unique custom items for their fans. Not everyone can afford $25-50k for injected molded figurines, but we CAN afford to create really cool and still quite high quality items in quantities as low as 50-100! |
Will it be the life line we need to continue to survive in this billionaire-controlled economy? Time will tell! For now, thank you for supporting creators and small business. We need you now more than ever.
